Carbon Steel

"One day a client asked me for a sculpture in stainless steel plate and I agreed to do it. When I saw the steel plates on the floor I realized that it was the skin of the space that was going to envelop or shape the piece. It was the opposite of carving: I studied the characteristics of stainless steel and its possibilities, especially to achieve the double curvatures. When I began to roll the plates, I began to feel them and then I was able to build a very large sphere with them, the one that commemorated the fortieth anniversary of atomic energy, that was when I accepted that space can exist covered by its skin, that it does not necessarily have to come out of a geometric solid."
